Hello and welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful and restful summer. I am so excited to see everyone's smiling faces. (...or at least smiling eyes behind those masked faces.) This year will bring a slight change to the music room as all Kindergarteners will now come to see me for music as the 1st and 2nd graders always have. Each class will receive one 45 minute music lesson per week.
I look forward to making music with you all in person!

The 20-21 school year is going to be an adventure- that's for sure! I cannot tell you how excited I am to see your faces, whether it be through a screen or in person. (Of course, I'd much rather see you in person!) Please know that I am working hard behind the scenes to be sure that your child's music education is the best it can be, no matter what platform we use. For our first few music lessons, your child will be able to make music using their voice, hands and body, but is welcome to get creative by using pencils as drum sticks, or coffee cans and plastic bins to drum on! I look very much forward to seeing you all soon!
I hope you are as excited as I am for the start of the new school year! Please be sure to stop by the music room (rm 49 in the main hallway) during open house on Wednesday, August 28th between 5-7pm. I would to meet and get a hug, hand shake or high five from any and all new or returning students!

I look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces at Open House on Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30pm. Sincerely, Mrs. Fletcher I hope your 2016 is off to a great start! The month of January was busy with a snow theme in the Integrated Arts room! We read and sang "There was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow" by Lucille Colandro, identified the repeated melodic pattern and it's shape, and then performed it on the bells. We also learned about ascending and descending scales, as we sang a song about building a snowman, and had great fun 'melting' at the end! "Ten on the Sled" by Kim Norman and "Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats were our other favorite book choices this month. Be on the lookout for "I Sang a Song By Myself" certificates. Students can earn these certificates by learning short songs to sing by themselves in class. Don't forget to ask them to sing the song for you at home! In Art class, we read "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell and created our own snowy owls with sponge painting. We welcomed a special visitor, retired Integrated Arts teacher Mrs. Principe, to our room. Mrs. Principe taught us how to create the texture of the owls by pressing and lifting our sponges. We also used lines, shapes and colors in our directed drawing of snowflakes, and took a look at art and masks from around the world, as we created our own masks. In the gym we have been playing with the parachute. We made an igloo and got inside, and put 'snowballs' on the parachute. A few friends took turns being 'snowplows' and ran around the parachute to clean up any snowballs that fell off. We also did some core strengthening exercises, such as making a table, a bridge, and a wheel with our bodies. You are invited to a "Meet the Integrated Arts Teacher Night" on Tuesday, February 9th. Please pop in to the IA room any time between 5:30 and 6:30pm to see some of our art projects and informally chat with me about what your child is doing in class. The MEEPA meeting will be conveniently following at 6:30 that same evening. If you would prefer a more formal, one-on-one conference, please feel free to contact me to set up a time. Don't forget to be working on the Fitness Calendars with your kids each month! Kindergarten students only need to complete 20 activities on the calendar, but feel free to do more. Each time you complete a calendar, you get to enjoy some quality time getting healthy with your kids, and your child will receive a cool foot charm to hang on his/her backpack. You can find the fitness calendar here. Family Fitness Night is coming up! Friday, February 12th from 5-7pm, the EES wellness committee will host a fun packed event celebrating being healthy and fit. There will be many activities for you to do with your child, as well as free hot chocolate! Quick Reminders: Tuesday, February 9th at 5:30-6:30pm: Meet the IA Teacher Night Friday, February 12th 5-7pm: Family Fitness Night Complete your February Fitness Calendar! Please contact me with questions anytime! Sincerely, Mrs. Fletcher [email protected] With the Fall season in full swing I wanted to stop in and post a quick update about happenings in the Integrated Arts room! At the end of September, my family and I were pleasantly surprised by the early birth of our son Robby. He is healthy and beautiful, and has been the perfect addition to complete our family. Because of the unexpected nature of his arrival, I had to leave the classroom earlier than planned. Our kids have been so fortunate to have Mrs. Hooper, a certified art teacher, as their guest teacher for the past few weeks. She was kind enough to step in for me, until Mrs. Hughes could begin teaching for me during my planned maternity leave the first week of November. Mrs. Hughes will be teaching the class for me until I return after Christmas break, on January 4th. Both teachers are very experienced and knowledgable in the area of the arts. Mrs. Hooper and Mrs. Hughes will be working together to ensure a smooth transition. I will be having a "Meet the Integrated Arts Teacher Night" in January after my return, where parents will be invited to drop in to chat with me. I will also offer scheduled appointment times for anyone wishing to discuss their child's progress in a one-on-one setting. In the meantime, if you have any questions about what or how your child is doing in Integrated Arts class, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I miss the kids SO much! Although I am enjoying my maternity leave, I am very anxious to get back to the classroom. Below are a few pictures from Mrs. Hooper showing what our kids have been up to! They have had a great time playing and learning in the gym. In music class, they continued learning about the difference between rhythm and beat. In art class, they learned about artist Vincent Van Gogh and his Sunflowers. They decorated vases and painted their own sunflowers, as well. Feel free to stop in to the Integrated Arts room at any time to view our WOW WORK board that features various students' art work each week. Hello Parents and Students,
Words cannot express my excitement for the start of the 2015-2016 school year! I know first hand that starting kindergarten can be an exciting and emotional time for both the students and the parents. Please know that I am thrilled to have your children join me on a journey of learning through creative expression in music, art, and movement. I will do my best to make them feel comfortable and relaxed, and provide a warm and caring learning environment. I believe that all students can learn, and my goal is to provide hands-on learning experiences to best facilitate creative learning from each child as an individual. What you should know: * We will be moving! Please make sure your child wears comfortable clothing and shoes that they are able to move in easily, everyday. Your child will see me four days a week, and we will be moving during each class; fitness, music, and art. By making sure that your child wears sneakers each day, you are helping to keep them safe and make sure they are able to participate. * I accept donations! Because I see all of the kindergarten students, I do not have a core group of kids to bring in consumable items such as tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, paper towels, dry erase markers, etc. If you would like to make a donation to our classroom, please send the items to school with your child labeled "Integrated Arts". *I love volunteers! If you are looking for a way to get involved and volunteer in your child's classroom, I would love to have you! I am happily accepting volunteers to assist with tasks such as wiping tables and smocks, tracing, cutting, and prepping for various art projects, sharpening pencils, etc. Please contact me by email or phone if you are interested in helping. *Please stop by the Integrated Arts Room #33 at the Early Elementary Open House on Wednesday, September 2nd at 5pm and say hello! I am looking forward to getting to know each and every student and helping them find an appreciation and love for the arts and their health and fitness! If you have any questions, or just want to chat about Integrated Arts Class, please feel free to contact me! Sincerely, Mrs. Fletcher [email protected] (269) 668-3364 x1633 |
